Suits

The Queen of Swords with her blade agleam
is darkness starlight cannot redeem,
But the Queen of Hearts’ forgiving eyes
hold the healing warmth of summer skies.

This is an example of Poetry In Mind: poetry written more for the sake of intellectual challenge (2 prompts: “Queen of Swords” and “starlight”) than with genuine feeling. There is real feeling here in the contrast between the Queens of Swords (a Tarot suit) and the Queen of Hearts (ironically, a more modern suit), but the topic of card suits is certainly not one on which I would ever naturally speak.
