Depression Defied in Three Poems

“The Mirror of Depression”, “Angel’s Sight” and “Heart Become Light”

The Mirror of Depression

Worthless he deemed himself to be
for all his efforts seemed in vain;
in his heart’s gift he came to see
a curse bestowing only pain.

Angel’s Sight

That frozen heart began to thaw
when memory returned one night,
of eyes which in him goodness saw:
a priceless gift of angel’s sight.

Heart Become Light

He followed his heart through broken bars:
what under the clouds he’d seen as blight
was painted now with transcendent stars.
The heart deemed cursed had become a light.
